勃起の仕組みを徹底解説

性的に興奮すると、男性のペニスは大きくなるということ、子供でもわかっています。小学生の高学年くらいからでしょうか、クラスの男子達の話から、私もなんとなくわかってきました。でも、男性ではないので、どうやったら勃つのかとかわかりませんし、骨ではなさそうだし、筋肉なの？どうして大きくなるの？知らないことがたくさんあります。
男性の陰茎（竿の部分）は、尿道海綿体と２対になった陰茎海綿体できています。海綿体とはスポンジのことで、中にはたくさんの血管が張り巡らされています。
勃起をするということは、陰茎海綿体に血液が流れるということです。血液がたくさん流れると、大きくなり、固くなります。陰茎海綿体に流れる血管は普段は閉じていて血液は流れませんが、性的な興奮を受けると血管の道が開いて血液が流れていきます。
前述した、尿道海綿体は尿道を守るためにあり、勃起時には膨らみますが固くはなりません。尿道海綿体がないと、固くなった陰茎海綿体で尿道が押しつぶされてしまいます。尿道海綿体は、ペニスの下側（裏側）にあります。勃起した男性のペニスを上から見てみると、陰茎海綿体が２対になっていることがわかります。
性的な興奮があると、神経を通じて脳から陰茎へと信号が送られます。信号が到達すると体内では一酸化炭素が放出されます。そうすると、陰茎海綿体の血管のバルブが開いて、血液が流れ込み、勃起が起こります。
以上が勃起が起こる大まかな流れです。
勃起を引き起こす物質と勃起を抑える物質
血液が陰茎海綿体に流れる際に、重要な役割をする物質があります。「サイクリックGMP（グアノシン１リン酸）」というものですが、別に名前は覚えなくていいです。役割としては、血管を拡張するというものです。血管が拡張すると、陰茎海綿体に血液が流れやすくなります。
一方で、陰茎にはぼっきを抑えようとする酵素もあります。「PDE（ホスホジエストラーぜ）５」といいます。これも名前は覚えなくていいです。クアラルン５は、サイクリックGMPを分解するという役割があります。勃起をしずめるものなんて出なければいいのにと思うかもしれませんが、勃起がしずまらないということは、勃ったら勃ちっぱなしということでこれも困ります。
勃起をしてほしい時に、PDE５が働きすぎるということが、勃起不全やEDの原因の一つではありますが、バイアグラなどのED薬の多くは、PDE５の働きを抑えることにより、サイクリックGMPを分解しなくすることで勃起がしやすくなるという働きをします。
勃起をするためにはサラサラの血液が重要
勃起をするためには、血液の流れが重要であることがわかりました。流れやすい血液と、流れにくい血液を考えると、ドロドロとした血液は流れが悪くなりますし、サラサラとして血液は流れやすくなります。
また、血管が詰まっていると、血液の流れが悪くなるので、勃起にも悪影響を及ぼします。こう考えていくと、勃起をしやすい体とは健康な体であるということが考えられます。血液の流れが悪くなって、脳で詰まると脳梗塞ですし、心臓で詰まると心筋梗塞です。
